Анализ 42 случаев (данные Duke University Medical Center, база MAUDE FDA, мировая литература 1997–2013) показывает частоту осложнения от 1.1% (95% CI, 0.5–2.0%) до 4.7% (95% CI, 1.3–11.5%) при регулярной визуализации, с летальностью 15.4%. Гистопатология выявляет макрофагальную инфильтрацию, указывающую на иммунный ответ как причину деградации протеза, особенно у крупных клапанов (23–29 мм), тогда как размеры 19–21 мм безопасны.
