You are asked to CREATE a case study by yourselves from scratch. You (as a group) need to include the followings (at least),
• Introduction of Your Firm- in this section, you can start with describing the firm/company you created. You might need to include all necessary information as specific as possible (or as the firm is physically “existed”), e.g., name of the firm (logo if possible), location of the firm, registration date of the firm (or date of creation of the firm), name and number of the founders of the firm (some descriptions/background about the founders), size of the firm, personnel of the firm, main operating activities of the firm, and so forth (words, 100-200).
• Financial Situation of Your Firm – in this section, you need to provide all necessary information FINANCIALLY of the firm to facilitate your calculations/analyses in the section of Financial Analysis of the Firm. For instance, if you would like to work on CVP analysis of your firm, you then need to provide Contribution Format Income Statement(s) with all financial information to ease your CVP analysis. If you would like to work on job-order costing, you then need to provide financial information on direct materials, direct labour, manufacturing overhead for analyses. You need to think about the relevant activity cost pools, activity rates and activity measures if you would like to study Activity-based Costing (words, 200-300).
• Financial Analysis of Your Firm – in this section, it is simply about the calculations by using the financial information you “created” in section of Financial Situation of Your Firm. Most importantly, you need to provide interpretations of the results from your calculations. For instance, in a CVP analysis, your calculations may suggest increasing selling price per client served to encounter the increases in fixed costs. Your interpretations would focus on the reliability of such a business strategy (e.g., Are the clients willing to accept an increase in selling price? To what extant? Is there any other strategy you could apply other than raising the selling price?) (words, 250-350).
Basic Requirements:
• The company/firm you created should belong to hospitality industry and/or tourism industry, e.g., restaurant, events organiser, holiday resort, hotel, catering service companies, etc.
• While one of the objectives of this Group Case Study is to create “something” that could be close to the real-life business case study, but you need to make assumptions to ease your calculations and analyses.
• You are required to choose any TWO of the MAIN topics in managerial accounting (e.g., CVP analysis, job-order costing, ratio analysis, master budgeting, etc.) for your analyses in the section of Financial Analysis of the Firm.
• Free writing style. There is NO requirement regarding how your case study be demonstrated; your case study could be storytelling, scenario constructions, dialogues among executives of the firm, and so forth.
• USE YOUR IMAGINATIONS AND CREATIVITY. IT IS IN YOUR HANDS.
